Elemental Focus Mana Reduction

Elemental Focus: Each time you crit your next 2 spells cost 40% mana. From the EJ forums, you can calculate the average cost of a spell with this formula:

.8C-.4C^2

That is, 2*.4, from which you subtract the possibility that you have two crits in a row and "waste" a charge. C is crit % of course.

With Convection, the base cost of a lightning bolt is 270. Without haste, you would need to cast 2.5 lightning bolts in 5 seconds. So the below formula is how much mana you save in 5 seconds:
270*(.8C-.4C^2)*2.5

With 35% crit, you are saving about 134 mana every 5 seconds, making 1% crit worth about 3.8mp5. The more crit you have, the more it's worth; with 50% crit, 1% crit is worth about 4.3mp5.

In either case, the number is fairly small I think. You cannot rely on crits alone to solve any serious mana issues you may have.

Let's look at how intellect affects things:

1 crit = .045% crit
1 crit ~= .18 mp5

1 int = .0125% crit
1 int = .1 + 15/(600seconds/5) + .0125%*4mp5 = .1 + .125 + .05 = .275 mp5

That's for a 10 minute fight, assuming 1% crit ~= 4mp5. So since crit rating and intellect are itemized equally, int is always more valuable than spell crit rating in terms of mana efficiency. You of course only have about a quarter of the crit % though. Take that as you will.
